Research Ethics Regulations of JKPWSAGW (2016. 2. 27. Revision)
1. Purpose
These regulations on research ethics present the basic principles and directions necessary for compliance with this journal’s research ethics. They are aimed at preventing research fraud while setting forth the ethical standards required of members who may wish to submit papers for publication in the Journal of Korean Physical Education and Sport Association for Girls and Women (JKPESAGW).
2. Subject and Scope
All members who submit works for publication in the Journal of Korean Physical Education and Sport Association for Girls and Women (JKPESAGW) must comply with these regulations except in cases where there are special provisions in other laws and regulations related to their works.
3. Research Ethics of Researchers
- 1) Researchers should not make use of counterfeit research comprising fake data nor produce research results that are non-existent.
- 2) Researchers should not artificially manipulate, alter, and delete data or processes to distort the research contents or results.
- 3) Researchers should not plagiarize other people’s ideas, research contents and results by incorporating them without legitimate approval or appropriate form of citation.
- 4) Any researcher who has made an important contribution to the research and thus deserves to be acknowledged for the results must be indicated as co-author(s), and the fact of his or her role as co-author must be clearly agreed upon by all the co-authors. In addition, the order of the names of research authors should be decided according to the degree of contribution to the research, starting with the one who contributed the most.
- 5) Researchers should not duplicate the same or almost identical works published in other journals as if they were new ones. Only after this journal has turned down publication should they apply for publication in another journal.
- 6) In the case of citing already published data, the researcher must accurately indicate citations and references so that the original contribution by the researcher can be clearly distinguished.
- 7) Should there bea request from another researcher after the research results have been published, that researcher must actively provide research-related data and results within the scope permitted by intellectual property rights or regulations related to the research.
4. Research Methods and Ethics
- 1) Research materials should not be created randomly nor tampered with.
- 2) References should be cited clearly, especially when using secondary data.
- 3) Where the subject of the study concerns human being(s), the study subject's identity must be kept confidential. The study subject or guardian must be informed in a thorough and timely manner about the purpose, method, content, predicted benefits, and inherent risks of the study, and where necessary a written consent ought to be obtained beforehand.
- 4) The researcher should let the subject or guardian know beforehand of their right to refuse participation at any time while research is conducted.
- 5) Members of the editorial board are allowed to seek agreement from the subject and for other related material if and where necessary.
5. Research Ethics Committee
- 1) The Research Ethics Committee, comprising 11 or fewer members including 1 chairperson, is established for the sake of deliberating and deciding on the contents set forth in this regulation.
- 2) The Research Ethics Committee deliberates over any violations of research ethics in an independent manner and in accordance with the regulation(s)related to the contents being reported or in relation to the aforesaid violation of research ethics.
- 3) The chairman of the Research Ethics Committee will be appointed by the chairman of the Korean Physical Education and Sport Association for Girls and Women (JKPESAGW), while members of the Research Ethics Committee will be appointed by the chairman of JKPESAGW with the recommendation of the Research Ethics Committee’s chairperson. Furthermore, members of the Research Ethics Committee should include at least two outsiders who are not members of the JKPESAGW.
- 4) The term of office of the Research Ethics Committee’s chairman and members is one year, all of whom can be reappointed.
- 5) The meeting of the Research Ethics Committee shall be conducted with a majority of the committee in attendance, and any decisions made ought to be approved by a majority of the committee members present.
- 6) The chairman and members of the Research Ethics Committee shall keep all information obtained in relation to the meeting confidential and shall not disclose it to anyone outside.
- 7) Research Ethics Committee members who are personally involved with any specific issues cannot participate in the deliberation and resolution of those issues.
6. Contents to be Reviewed by the Research Ethics Committee
- 1) Matters of relevance to research ethics raised in journals, texts, proposals, and reports related to JKPWSAGW
- 2) Matters concerning research ethics and education as they relate to research and development
- 3) Matters concerning the subject's safety, personal information protection, and compensation for any loss
- 4) Complaints about research integrity related to JKPWSAGW
- 5) Investigation of research misconduct related to JKPWSAGW
- 6) Matters concerning research ethics proposed by a research manager or manager of a research project related to JKPWSAGW
- 7) Other research ethics-related matters proposed by the chairman of the Research Ethics Committee
7. Reporting any Violation of Research Ethics and Protection of Reporters' Rights
- 1) JKPWSAGW members or others can report to JKPWSAGW if they become aware that a researcher has violated the journal’s research ethics.
- 2) The identity of the reporter must be kept confidential.
- 3) Anyone who is accused of research dishonesty has the right to raise any objection against the results of the investigation by the committee, a right that the committee shall guarantee.
8. Investigation step and disciplinary action for violation of research ethics
- 1) Members (hereinafter referred to as ""subjects"") who are investigated for violations of the research ethics must actively cooperate with the investigation conducted by the Research Ethics Committee. Regardless of the relative importance of the research violation, the chairman of JKPWSAGW may impose a penalty on subjects who do not cooperate with the investigation based on the resolution of the Executive Committee.
- 2) The Research Ethics Committee shall give those subjects accused of research ethics violations an adequate opportunity to defend themselves and shall keep their identities confidential.
- 3) The investigating researcher may request a reconsideration to JKPWSAGW if there is objection to the violation of research ethics or disciplinary action. In this case, the president of KPWSAGW may request the Research Ethics Committee to conduct the investigate a new or change the action and disciplinary content through a resolution of the Executive Committee.
- 4) After investigating any violation of research ethics under this regulation, the Research Ethics Committee reports the contents of its investigation to the chairman of JKPWSAGW.
- 5) If a researcher is found to have violated the research ethics, the president of KPWSAGW may take the following actions through a resolution of the Executive Committee based on the contents reported by the Research Ethics Committee:
- i) Remove the publication in question from the list of the journal
- ii) The researcher is to be prohibited from submitting to the journal for the next 5 years.
- iii) The researcher may be asked to modify, edit, and send the submission again. In this case, the violator will bear the cost.
- iv) Announce the finding of research ethics violation on the KPWSAGW website.
- v) Notify the National Research Foundation of Korea of such a violation.
- 6) Upon receiving a report on the research ethics violation by a researcher from the Research Ethics Committee, and depending on the degree of violation, the chairman of JKPWSAGW may carry out suspension of qualifications or disciplinary action for disqualification through a resolution of the Executive Committee.
9. Proceedings
The Research Ethics Committee shall write and keep the contents of the meeting’s proceedings.
10. Budget
The expenses for the work of the Research Ethics Committee are to be supported by the JKPWSAGW budget.
11. Revision and Abolition
Revision or abolition of this regulation shall be decided upon by the Executive Committee of JKPWSAGW.
12. Other matters not stipulated in this Article shall be adjudicated in accordance with the relevant laws and social regulations.
Supplementary Provisions
- 1. This regulation takes effect as of January 1, 2008.
- 2. This regulation shall take effect from the date of approval by the Editorial Committee as of August 26, 2016.
